Pastor punished for anti-Madonna bomb hoax

18 December 2007 - Pastor Willem G. has been banned from conducting services or holding church positions for three years. In September 2006, G. was responsible for a bomb hoax at the Arena where pop star Madonna was to perform. G. said five cluster bombs would explode during an act in which she would be hanging from a cross wearing a crown of thorns.

Police caught G. before the concert and there was no need to evacuate the Arena. At his home, a revolver, an alarm gun and ammunition were found. G. said he used the gun to scare away pigeons from his aviary. He was sentenced to 150 hours community service and given a suspended sentence of four months. In addition, he has now been sentenced by the church.
