No running after headscarves

25 March 2006 – At least one visitor of an information meeting organised by secret service AIVD decided to apply for a carreer as a spy. The meeting was part of the study and carreer week of the Universiteit van Amsterdam and the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, Folia writes.

The students were warned not to romanticise about the work. “Some people think that working at the AIVD means running through the meadows after headscarves, wearing a hat and holding a pistol in your hand”, said AIVD agent Paul, who wanted to keep his last name a secret.

The visitors of the information meeting had been screened in advance. Paul: “There just happen to be a lot of people who are not well disposed towards the AIVD, and we would rather not see them turn up here”.
