Photography and Egypt Salon – Thursday 11 February 8 pm

A salon about photography, Cairo's car-culture and Egypt's visual history.

Writer and long-time resident of Cairo Maria Golia (Caïro) describes the forces behind photography’s development in the most photographed place on earth, highlighting the camera’s power to conceal as well as reveal.

Photographer Jan Adriaans (Rotterdam) spent a few months on an artist residency in Cairo, and will share with us his fascination with the city’s overtly present car-culture, and the aesthetics of the installation-like spaces of the garages and car repair workshops and the adoration of shiny car materials.

Een Salon over fotografie, Caïro als autostad en de beeldcultuur en geschiedenis van Egypte.

Tijdens deze Salon presenteert Maria Golia (Caïro) “Photography and Egypte”. Maria is schrijfster en vertelt over haar verblijf in Caïro en de kracht van fotografie.

Ook fotograaf Jan Adriaans (Rotterdam) heeft een aantal maanden gewoond en gewerkt in Caïro en vertelt ons over zijn fascinatie voor de autocultuur en schoonheid van garages en glimmende materialen.
