‘Send Zuidas bill to RAI, KLM’
Recently, it has been decided to put one kilometre of Ring Road at the Zuidas business district underground, a job that will cost 1.4 billion euros. Economics editor Menno Tamminga of NRC Handelsblad thinks the project should not be funded entirely with taxpayers’ money. The offices at the Zuidas, the RAI, Schiphol Airport and the KLM will benefit from improved connections. “The private companies that benefit so clearly from public investments should cough up”, Tamminga argues.
Amsterdam contributes 200 million to the project. The national government will pay almost 1 billion and the rest will be paid by the province and the city region.
