On Amsterdam Centraal and Facebook, a campaign has been launched for a ban on distributing the phone book in Amsterdam. Walther Ploos van Amstel describes his efforts to stop receiving the book. A spokesperson of the company would finally have told him: “We can’t skip individual houses when we deliver in Amsterdam. That’s really too complicated. You should see the distribution lists…”
Ploos van Amstel argues that a paper phone book is obsolete now that phone numbers can easily be found on the internet. In his view, delivering phone books door to door is ‘a shameless waste of money, paper and energy’.
