Solar panels near airport
Schiphol Airport should put solar panels at the grasslands surrounding the airport, the Party for the Animals (PvdD) argues. This will make the environment less attractive for birds and will reduce the risk of accidents caused by birds hitting aircraft engines. In addition, the panels may supply 25% of the electricity used by the airport. Last Tuesday, an ArkeFly plane had to return after takeoff after colliding with birds. The airline says such incidents seem to be on the rise at Schiphol.
UPDATE - Schiphol plans to use green laserbeams to scare away birds.
