This afternoon, jeweller Marlies Katy Smit and real estate expert Jan-Sebastian, both candidates for the Centrum District Council, got married at Dam Square. “Beatrix refused to make the Palace available as a wedding location, so the bride and groom and dozens of guests and invitees were literally left out in the cold in front of the Palace,” the VVD announced in a press release.

The wedding is a protest against the fact that the Palace is vacant most of the time. The VVD wants the building to be used for council meetings, receptions of the mayor and aldermen, weddings, concerts, opera, theatre and exhibitions.

The action against Beatrix was supported by couturier Frans Molenaar, who supplied the wedding dress.
