Whoever subscribes to Concerto’s newsletter can pick up a remaindered CD for free at the shop at the Utrechtsestraat. The CDs are being given away on the occasion of Record Store Day, an initiative in which hundreds of independent record stores in America and elsewhere participate.

According to the Record Store Day website, Rush Hour at the Spuistraat also participates, but a spokesperson says that no special activities will be organised. At Concerto, CDs to be given away include Lust for Life by Iggy Pop and a Billie Holiday collection.

Not all record stores can participate in Record Store Day. The event is restricted to physical stores where music comprises at least fifty percent of the product line and that whose ownership is at least 70% local. “In other words, we’re dealing with real, live, physical, indie record stores—not online retailers or corporate behemoths”.
